Born in Va. Beach Va. to Parents Willie (Mac) and Lois McCauley, Lem was raised up on a dairy farm, and was the seventh of ten children. He began playing music at the age of eight, and started to hone his skills in jam sessions with his Dad on harmonica and brother David on guitar. They were a farming family and after several moves finally settled down in Powhatan County Va. Never being far from his "Ole Silvertone" Lem would carry it to school and sing and play in class, and at times would be called to the office where he and principle John Gentry would pick out tunes in secret. Church was also a venue that helped build his creative side as an entertainer playing in youth groups at Muddy Creek and Graceland Baptist Church. Soon after leaving home at eighteen and traveling the country the road brought him to Schenectady N.Y. where he met businessman Lee Frescatore. Needing work, Lem took a roofing and remodeling job from Mr. Frescatore and the two became instant friends. When "Papa Lee" learned of the musical talents of this young man he asked him to play the grand opening of a new club. News Years Eve 1979 started a twenty year run that would end on New Years Eve 1999. During that twenty years using Le'sons as a home base Lem played throughout the Northeast doing numerous television and radio shows as well as playing various venues in the Southeast. After the closing of Le'sons due to Mr. Frescatores failing health, Lem relocated to Georgia where he now resides with wife and daughter on a beautiful little farm in Aragon. He is the father of nine children and 21 grandchildren. Lem continues to write songs that come straight from the heart and soul of one who has lived the words he sings. He is also the author of the novel,"These High Places" and is currently working on a second novel to be released soon.
